Where to Eat? Yardbird

As you can probably guess by now - I love eating. There's something about the right meal at the right time that can absolutely make my day. Here's my latest food obsession. It's a southern restaurant in Miami named Yardbird Southern Table and Bar. Don't let the name fool you. This isn't your typical southern restaurant. No greasy spoons here - just the best version of all your southern favorites. I'm talking grits, waffles, mac n' cheese, and of course fried chicken. The flavors are reminiscent of all the goodies that you enjoyed at grandma's table, but better.

I've visited Yardbird on a few occasions for both dinner and brunch. Though dinner was great, brunch is definitely where it's at. The restaurant serves brunch on both Saturdays and Sundays and is usually overflowing with hungry patrons. The wait for brunch can be as long as an hour if you do not call ahead, but it's worth the wait. Besides, Yardbird is located near Lincoln Road Mall, which means that you can use that hour to shop and people watch. Shopping plus an amazing meal sounds like heaven to me. :)

These quirky homages to meat are all around the restaurant. I'm not a huge meat person so I just find it weird, but my husband loved it.

The rest of the decor in the restaurant is really charming. I love cool rustic elements like the basket lighting in the above pic. The restaurant also has mason jars full of flowers on each table, and really unique displays of fruits and veggies. One word of caution: seating is really tight and there are always tons of people in the restaurant, so get ready to get to know your dining neighbors a little more than you'd like.

Chicken and Waffles: The waiter and manager let us know that the chicken is always fried to order. This means your chicken will always be fresh, but it also means that you might have to wait a little longer to get it. The above picture was taken without the breast of the chicken, which was brought out ten minutes later. Honestly, I hate the idea of my course coming out in pieces; but hey, my husband didn't mind and said the chicken was deelish (not in those exact words though lol).

Though the chicken was good the waffles were too dense for my taste.

We also had (clockwise from the bottom left) cheesy grits, regular ol' egg and cheese, and a tomato salad. The grits are the best thing on the menu. They were so good that we ordered up a second serving. The eggs were terrific and the tomato salad was so fresh and perfect  that we decided to grab some more of that as well.

If you're in Miami, want a great brunch spot, and have an hour or two to kill, stop by Yardbird Southern Table and Bar - you won't regret it.
