Make It Work: Monochromatic Me

Dress: Calvin Klein, Shoes: Aldo, Purse: Cole Haan, Necklace: Betsey Johnson, Belt: Betsey Johnson, Sunglasses: Gucci, Watch: Michele, Scarf: Ross (pictured below), Cardigan: Banana Republic (pictured below)

I decided to wear this dress yesterday since coworkers are notorious for giving people the side-eye when they do not participate in Valentine's Day festivities. Especially if those people happen to be newlyweds, like myself. To avoid the office rumor mill, which would inevitably have me getting divorced, remarried, and pregnant all in the same day, I decided to give them red overload!

Though color-blocking with non-traditional colors is fun, it can be a little too daring for some office environments. If you're looking for a way to satisfy your need for color, while staying within office norms, playing with a monochromatic palette may be for you. For me, this is a great way to keep my outfits bright and cheery without getting drawn into that awkward conversation with "Coworker X" about why I think yellow pants and a green shirt belong in the same outfit. For my monochromatic looks, I pick a fun color and make sure that at least two elements of my outfit are in similar shades of that fun color. Then, I pair my monochromatic outfit with nude heels, since they go with EVERYTHING. After picking my monochromatic elements, and throwing on my nude pumps, I'm out of the door and ready to take on the day.

If you're still a little too bright for your boring office, throw on a cardigan in a neutral tone to subdue the colors a bit.

Or, if your office environment is pretty liberal, add a scarf with a jazzy print to increase the drama.

If you need some more convincing that being monochromatic is where it's at - check out our ever fabulous first lady!

Have fun playing with color ladies!
Lots of Love,
Jillian

Special Note: In my opinion, Calvin Klein makes amazing work dresses. First of all, they last forever. Plus, you can find them at deeply discounted prices on sale sites like Ruelala.com. If your not hip to Rue la la and all the other fabulous sales sites, email me for an invite ASAP!

**Special Special Note: I'll be posting my Blue Valentine's dress very very soon. Thanks for the reminder ladies. What would I do without you guys!

  12. I adore the chunky belt. My mom has the most awesome collection of them. To this day I will still slip into her closet and well, "burrow" one or two. Very chic look.
