Cross-Over Appeal: Gingham Shirt + Paisley Skirt

Hey Lovelies!

Honestly, in Miami there really is only one season - summer. But, since a lot of you ladies are psyched about the first day of spring, I thought I'd join in the celebration with another homage to pastels. :)

Skirt: J.Crew
Trench: Forever 21 (here)
Shoes: Aldo (similar -LO, similar HI)
Belt: Macy's
Purse: Anne Klein (similar - LO, similar -HI)
Sunglasses: Gucci (similar LO, similar-HI)
Watch: Rolex
Bracelets: Bijoux Jewelry (Miami)
Earrings: Vintage

Don't you guys love this Anne Klein bag? It's such a fun spin on the classic Chanel bag. Don't know why, but I love the quilted feline pattern (maybe it has something to do with me being a proud LEO) :).

Since I have a tremendous amount of work clothes, I always try to rework them into cute outfits that I can wear after hours. That's why I always look for cross-over appeal when I shop for work clothes. What is cross-over appeal you ask? Well, it's a clothing item's ability to be worn at work as well as in various other non-work settings. This gingham shirt and paisley skirt both have tremendous cross-over appeal.

For work, I pair the paisley skirt with a solid purple sweater, and the gingham shirt with slacks. After work... well, the options are pretty much unlimited. Pair the gingham shirt with ripped jeans and your ready for a play date (can you tell that I have babies on the brain lol), pair it with gingham shorts and your ready for a casual stroll, or pair it with a asymmetrical skirt and head to dinner. The possibilities go on and on. Pair the paisley skirt with a sexy silk top for a hot date, a peplum shirt for an art show, or a denim shirt and flats to run errands.

Above all, you can pair your gingham shirt with your paisley skirt and have a pattern mixing ball! LOL. The possibilities are endless. Although it may seem like it, you don't spend all of your time at work, so make sure your clothes can transition with you.

Thank you so much for reading,
Jillian

  1. I looooove the print mixing, and your hair looks fantastic like that! I straightened my hair this morning, so when it gets to oily to wear down, I am going to do a top knot!

*sigh* I really want that shirt, but I am looking for an inexpensive version...you'd think it would be easier to find a basic gingham plaid shirt. Not so...

    1. Hey Eboni,

I love print mixing too!!! Thank you so much for the compliment. My hair is the bane of my existence right now. I'm transitioning and it's sooo difficult to deal with.

If you stalk j crew enough, their perfect shirts always go on sale. At the end of the season you can get them for as low as 20 bucks. :)

  2. This is a really cute, updated take on the preppy look. Love it! Button-downs are SO versatile: they work with everything, can be dressed up or down, and worn in so many different ways. IMHO, J Crew ones are some of the best, and they go on sale/clearance pretty often.

  19. This blog is fast becoming my favourite. As a professional, I am pretty much always in work clothes but I shy away from colour for the most part and never wear my work clothes after hours. You are helping get over both issues, thanks. Love the colours on this outfit by the way.

  24. Hi Jillian,

I love this look of yours!! It is so creatively and chicly styled. I found you through Pinterest this morning when I was writing a post about gingham button downs and how to style them for this spring. I hope you don't mind me using your photo as reference for a great way to style the look. I linked back to this page. Thanks for the great inspiration and you can see my post at www.focusonflair.blogspot.com. If you want me to take down the image, please let me know.

    Thanks!!
