She Knows How To Make Her Clothes Work Double Duty.
Dress Worn as Skirt: Banana Republic (HERE, IN PRINT), Peplum Top: Zara (SIMILAR), Shoes: Steve Madden (HERE), Clutch: Aldo Belt: Betsey Johnson, Sunglasses: Gucci
By the time I got my first grown-up job, I had little idea of what I needed in my work wardrobe and even less money. So, I spent the little money that I did have at the wrong stores and ended up with a few pieces that I wore TO DEATH. Through trial and error, I finally figured out smarter ways to spend my money and stretch my wardrobe.
One of my little tricks is wearing my dresses as skirts. A solid-color or printed dress can be transformed into a whole new look by pulling a complimentary top over it and belting your waist. Peplum tops in thicker fabrics are perfect for this. But, button downs and more traditional blouses will look amazing as well. This little trick will make sure that all of your pretty dresses can work double duty in your wardrobe.
Do you guys have any tips for getting more bang out of your wardrobe. I'd love to hear 'em.
Love,
Jillian

DeleteI'm a fan of layering, so adding vests, cardigans and blazers to simple dresses always takes it up a notch and creates a new look.

Sometimes I tug and pin or even temporarily hem things just so it can have a totally different feel when especially if I'm wearing it the same week.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely beautiful (as usual). I've never seen this type of look look so seemless. I really thought you had two pieces on. Very nice!!

LOVE THIS!! That peplum top is perfection! I also like to double jumpsuits as pants and dresses as tops worn with a skirt.
ReplyDeleteFab pictures , I'm so loving this idea shopping my closet now
ReplyDeleteGreat execution! You can't even tell it's actually a dress. I love doing this, as well, and I also like to wear pants over dresses (dress becomes a top). That peplum top is hot - I just saw a leopard one in Zara right before I escorted myself out, lol.
ReplyDeletegreat colors! and that is a smart way to remix the wardrobe. you look lovely, as usual!

Very Nice!! I also have my cardigans function as blouses and some of my buttoned tops function as jackets, a good idea too is wearing those trendy sheer shirts as beach cover ups.
ReplyDeleteso lovely
ReplyDeleteI have only just discovered your blog and I love it. I'm a young professional and I identify with what you said about needing to look good on a budget. I also made a lot of bad buys soon after I started working lending credence to my mum's favorite saying that "sometimes cheaper is dearer." There are things one can buy cheaply and things one must invest in. I'm still learning and your style inspires me.
ReplyDeletewow nicely done, i haven't really been sold to this peplum craze but you a rocking it :)
ReplyDeletelove this outfit and vibrant colour of this top, beautiful!

Mrs Obama had the same exact peplum top on this morning in london!!
ReplyDeleteAhhhh I love this!!
ReplyDeleteVery nice! What I also do to get the most out of my work wardrobe is wear suits as separates, for e.g. I might pair a suit jacket with a pencil skirt or a suit bottom with a nice peplum top or jacket.

Nice post. Another way to get more out of your dress is to tuck it into either a full skirt or a pencil skirt. Since I can't wear short dresses our, I ruck them into a longer skirt and wear the dress as a blouse.
ReplyDeleteI love the way you styled this dress. I am so in love with Peplums right now and even though they are trendy right now, I see them as classic. I have a few tricks too for getting the most out of my wardrobe. I wear skirts as dresses, scarves as tops and skirts and sarongs as scarves. I am a big fan of remixing items and finding unique ways to get the most out of my wardrobe.
ReplyDeleteYou look amazing, I love this look
