Tropical Storm Isaac has been holding me hostage for the past few days, but I’m finally free! Fortunately there wasn’t any major damage, but there were lots of thunderstorms, cloudy skies, and spotty internet connections. Under these circumstances, my hurricane preparedness plan consisted of watching old movies and walking around in sweats and rain boots. Since there was absolutely nothing too fashionable going on in my neck of the woods this weekend, I decided to spare you the pics of my oh-so chic rain gear (insert hubby’s ‘yeahright’ face here), and chat about one of my favorite work-wear accessories -the watch.
Since most people run around all day with IPhone in hand, I completely understand why a watch could seem obsolete. But, during a recent meeting I noticed something that I thought was a little odd. I randomly began taking note of how many people were wearing watches and realized that while about half of the women weren’t wearing watches, each and every guy in the room was. That really got me to thinking - is wearing a watch to work becoming a guy thing?
As a watch lover, I hope not. Now more than ever, watches are another small way to showcase your personal style. Whether you like a more masculine ticker or a diminutively demure timepiece, the right watch can give others a glimpse into who you really are underneath that suit jacket. Plus, in the working world, wearing a watch gives off the impression that you are concerned with time (both your time and the time of others). I know, it seems like a stretch, but employers and business partners pay attention to these things. Above all, a watch is also an excellent conversation starter. When their IPhones die, all the desperate time-seekers come a-knocking lol. Either way you slice it ladies, in the work world, a watch isn't just for telling time and it definitely shouldn't be just for the boys.
I’d love to hear what you think about the topic. Do you think watches are a necessary part of your work-drobe?
xoxo

Yes I think so. I have to wear a watch everyday. This post is actually timely because for some reason I've been looking into updating my watch collection. I just got a silver one from fossil and now looking for one in goldtone. I wear watches for their function and style.

I love fossil watches! They really have something for everyone. We should start a ‘Save the Watches’ campaign lol. We’re so alone on this one.
DeleteI haven't worn a watch in years. I do think they polish an outfit, especially wearing business like attire. I just don't see the need to invest so much in one at this point because of the good ole cell phone.
ReplyDeleteGreat points missy! I guess I'm just a watch nut. I really can't leave home without it. It's always great to see you love.
Deletexoxo
I'm with you Sing, I haven't worn a watch in YEAAAAAARS. With cell phones watches probably haven't sold in years. I have a movado that still sits in it's case.
ReplyDeleteUmmmmm so how about sending that Movado my way? lol
DeleteLOVE the Michele....but kinda pricey? All of them are amazing. I need a gold one myself.....nice choices!!! Your BLOG is FAB!!!

ReplyDeleteMy dad used to say he wouldn't do business with a man that wasn't wearing a watch,he said such people are not serious people. LOL

Sooo I'm definitely about to add that Nixon to my wishlisht! I was bracing myself for some outrageous price and that's not too bad!
ReplyDeleteWatches are slowly becoming my obsession. They are a stylish and practical accessory. Especially with men's wear being a hit, the big faces of brands like Michael Kors and Marc Jacobs lend to this trend. Or one can stick to the classic pieces like Skagen and Movado. I find your blog interesting, I look to you to find inspiration for my work wear as an Investigator practicality and comfort are essential. However, it doesn't hurt to have some of my personal style shine through.
ReplyDeleteI can't leave home without a watch! My first purchase from my first pay check in this country was a Guess watch that I wore for 15 years! It finally said enough was enough. I purchased a new one from Micheal Kors last year. Let's see how long it'll last. Definitely a great finish with any outfit and it's the reason I'm never late! A cell phone just doesn't do it for me.
ReplyDeleteI never ever go without a watch. No since dad bought me my first 'real' one when I was a teen. I generally don't look at my phone for time so for me, a watch is in the same basics list as underwear :-)
ReplyDeleteI was gifted two watches earlier this year and am now officially a "watch person". I love them! I got two Michael Kors watches. Want this Nixon next --> http://www.nixon.com/womens/watches/the-42-20-chrono-a037.html?sku=A037000-00 I believe a special someone already got it for my bday next month! :)
ReplyDeletei have a sister who is coo koo for watches its her fav gift item anf you can never go wrong with giving her one (i also get to wear hers :)). I wont leave my house without a watch. It truly is a dying bree for women who dont wear watched but there is something abbout your phone can die but that watch indicates respect for time-mine and others. Love watches
