Last weekend, I was invited to a super cool candy-cane themed Christmas party. Since I dislike the red and white candy canes, I decided to go to the party dressed as the traditional candy-cane's multicolored counterpart. To put this look together, I paired a multicolored flared mini skirt from ASOS with one of my peplum work tops.

 

 

This outfit is a great illustration of what I mean when I talk about "double-duty" dressing. Though this peplum top is definitely an integral part of my workdrobe, it  translates pretty easily into my after hours work life. If a top can take me from a work meeting to a silly candy-cane party, I'm definitely winning as far as return on investment is concerned. So, when buying a work wear clothing item, I always ask myself - "what other events can I wear this item to?" If at least two non-work events come to mind, then I know that piece is a winner. The more expensive the piece, the more events I require to justify my purchase.
