What's the Verdict

Top: Lululemon
Pants: Lululemon
Shoes: Nike

I hate working out, but I love the way it makes me look and feel. So, I try every trick in the book to get myself amp'd up for those long workouts. One of my tried and true tricks for psyching myself up is buying new workout clothes. Usually, I scour the racks at Marshalls and piece together reasonably cute workout ensembles. But, I 've recently been turned on to Lululemon.

I'd heard great things about their workout clothes and even browsed their stores a couple of times. But, I just couldn't justify paying $86 for a pair of workout pants. I mean, I physically could not muster up the strength to hand over those cute little pants to my cute little sales associate. I kept thinking about all of the "real" clothes I could be buying - that super cute top at Zara, those pants at Bloomie's, those super cute shoes at Nordstrom Rack. But, as luck (or some pretty strong hinting) would have it, my brother in law gifted me a giftcard to Lululemon for Christmas last year and I've been hooked ever since.

Their workout clothes are extremely light, don't ride up, and stay put despite rigorous activity. With that said, I still wonder if the $86 dollars is worth it or if I should pause my Lulelemon shopping until next Christmas. I'd love to hear what you think. Are workout clothes "real" clothes? And how much are you willing to spend on them?

  1. I ONLY buy workout clothes at a discount, so I'm like you. I peruse the racks at Marshall's TJ Maxx and the like, and won't spend more than $15 for bottoms and $10 for tops. I invest in good running/ cross training shoes though.

    1. I feel you! It's hard to smack down big bucks for something that's designed for you to sweat all over. But, the lulu's feel so amazing...................

  2. I plan to do a post on workout clothes on my own blog soon. I use to NEVER spend any significant money on workout clothes--old t-shirts and a few pairs of biker shorts/leggings was all I owned. Now that I'm a stay-at-home-mom, I've found that I'm actually WEARING my workout clothes almost as everyday clothes more often. It's easier to throw them on and get errands done, drop-off/pick-up kids and be ready to squeeze in that workout that way. So I decided it's time to develop a better workout-clothes-wardrobe, since it has really begun to be everyday wear for me. Plus, at my gym--people really look pulled together with gym outfits. Obviously, I was late to get the memo. lol

    1. Such a great point. I find myself running errands in my workout clothes a lot. I guess it's a little easier to justify the cost if you factor in the reality that workout clothes aren't only useful in the gym. Thanks for adding that Miss!

  3. lululemon workout clothes really are worth the money! I've purchased less expensive clothes and they lose their shape and elasticity over time. I'd rather invest in pants I can wear for a long period of time rather than have to buy new pants every year. The best line of affordable workout clothes I have ever worn are Gap's GapFit line. I've had pants from that line for years and they hold up just as well as Nike and lululemon and they have great colors and prices.

    2. Very true ladies! I've had some horrible experiences with some of my cheaper bottoms. Once the crotch section ripped apart mid workout. My lulu's fit like a glove every time.

  4. Wow !!! I couldnt see myself paying that much , but if the fit is perfect why not ??!!!! I mean a spanx is $50+ so why not :)

  5. They are worth the money and great quality. I am guilty of not wearing cute workout clothes and I don't invest a lot in them because I wear them to the gym, out to run or hike and thats it. I can't justify paying a lot for stuff I just sweat in and mess up anyway.

  6. Girl, you totally read my mind. I do not, can not and will not spend that much (of my own) money on Workout Clothes. The only thing worth the investment is the shoes because bad shoes = bad feet. I usually hit up Marshall's, TJ Maxx and Ross for my workout gear as well. But you look cute girl. But like you, I spend my money on REAL clothes! LOL!!!

  7. Definitely not more than $80. I have managed to keep quite a handful of t-shirts from college and high school which I wear to workout in and either shorts or leggings.

  8. I love lululemons clotthes but I refuse to purchase a pair of shorts but that cost $60.00. I get my workout clothes from Marshalls or Target.

  9. I've never tried the brand before so thanks for sharing, and i love your blog btw (first visit). However I do think spending more on your workout gear should in essence be better for perspiration, movement, etc. I do love buying them in the sale though, just makes it all that more satisfying knowing that I got a bargain!

  10. I work out quite a bit but I spend very little on my workout clothes. A decent pair of shorts and a t-shirt will do it for me. However, a good quality sports bra and good quality running shoes are simply not an option for me. A 10km run feels like 15 if your feet hurt and let's not even talk about bouncing boobs lol. But I admit I do splurge on my hockey skirts.

  12. Hi there! If you did not post these pics I would say no way its not worth it! But you look soooo cute that I have to say go ahead why not!lol Personally its more than I can afford to spend on workout clothes but it is a good investment especially if its great quality.

  13. I usually go for Nike workout clothes because they're cute and make me feel like an athlete... which I'm SO not, lol. Thanks for this review; I've always wondered how Lulu's stack up to their prices.

  14. I think the more you use them the more you need to invest in them. I work out now about 3x/week and with the amount of washing, wearing, etc. if I bought poor quality workout clothes they'd be dunzo by now. LuLuLemon may be pricey buuuuut I buy them on sale. I also LOVE GAP body and GAP fit. I've also heard good things about Nike fit workout clothes but they're the same price point as LuLu and her stores are more convenient.

If you can spend 80 on a pair of black pants you wear 3x/month, you can spend 80 on a pair you'll wear 8x/month. Just saying.

  16. I find cute workout gear at Marshalls, T.J. Maxx even Ross sometimes but I am a brand snob, I really only like to get Nike because I like the dri-fit shirts. I've looked at Lululemon but I just can't seem to break down and buy their stuff. I AM looking for these pants and they scream Lulumon to me but I don't know for sure. If you ever come across where these are from I will buy them: http://pinterest.com/pin/244038873529759333/

  18. I work out constantly, and like many others, shop at Marshalls and TJ Maxx for workout gear. I also have a Nike outlet close by so I check out their sales too. A really good bra and shoes are more important to me, and since I have a rather large bosom, I'd rather spend $60 on a good sports bra than on pants. I've always been interest in Lulumon though but I would have to catch it on sale.

  19. I thrifted a Lululemon jacket for $7.99. I didn't even know what it was at the time! I like it but I don't think I would pay $90.00 for it. I'm just not that into work out gear.

  21. Would not pay that much. Ever. Also, Target has great workout (and everything else) options for a fraction of the cost. Or you could just wear a t-shirt. hahah

  22. never. ever. no. I guess if you can afford it then that's cool but.....I don't see the point in paying that much for something when you can get the same thing for less. If it did all of that and helped you burn more calories and fly, then it would be worth it. That's just my opinion. But you do look fabulous either way!

  23. Absolutely buy. I only wear lulu lemon to the gym (and their leggings on weekends too sometimes). The fit is great so I don't look like a hot mess at the gym! I workout hard but at least my clothes are cute. Haha! Buy it once and you will be hooked. Those black pants will match a lot!
